UN Reaches New Low

A recent "anti-war" media campaign by UNICEF features the Smurfs being bombed and left for dead. "It's working. We are getting a lot of reactions and people are logging on to our Web site," UNICEF Belgium spokesman Philippe Henon said Tuesday.

Well, I'm thrilled that UNICEF thinks by unleashing a wave of horrifying ads involving the bombing of Smurfs and getting a few more thousand hits on their Web site is such a good thing. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the hits are from angry families who don't want their children subjected to this kind of crap.

Let's put this into perspective. UNICEF stands for "United Nations Children's Fund." That means that their mission is to protect and fight for and mostly represent the underprivileged children of the world. Well that's an honest task for any organization. So why are they showing many children's favorite cartoon characters being "carpet-bombed by warplanes"? Isn't that a gross misrepresentation of their duty?

In the world today, how many children die from being bombed by warplanes? I'd venture to guess that it's in the range of 0.00001% of the population of children (under 13) in the world. If the group wants to defend children and fight for them, it would stop going into African nations like the Sudan and raping their women. It would stop bickering about how horrible the United States is for fighting the war in Iraq, even though we are saving hundreds of thousands of children from starvation and persecution by a cruel dictator and his ruthless armies.

I'm appalled and sickened by the complete lack of decency in the UN today. The best thing they can do right now is to sit in their posh offices and halt the press releases for about a century or two.
